CRUISING THE HIGH SEAS

A lot of things to consider when planning to sail on the high seas. Should you smuggle your adult beverage of choice or buy the expensive beverage package offered by the ship? What month is the best to travel? Well if you’re a business owner you might want to take a look at IRS publication 463. When you are a business owner and travel on business you can deduct hundreds of dollars per day and the amount varies throughout the year. INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

According to the IRS, the daily limit is $996 from January 1 through March 31. Compared to only $700 daily May1 through May 31. Example:  Caroline, a travel agent, traveled by ocean liner from New York to London, Eng- land, on business in May. Her expense for the 6-day cruise was $6,200. Caroline’s deduction for the cruise can’t exceed $4,200 (6 days × $700 daily limit).

These are the types of things you can take advantage of when you are a business owner.  If you are a business owner make sure you take advantage the tax codes even when taking a cruise.  If you only work a 9-5 then consider owning your own business, even if it is part-time.
